New 475 Area Code to Join the 203 in Southwestern Connecticut
Old news to some who caught the memo that our area code (203) will be shared with the new addition of (475), but for many in Southwestern Connecticut they still don’t know. It seems we are loosing the availability of numbers connected within 203. To ensure there will be no actual loss of numbers within our area, the Department of Public Utility Control has decided to create a new code within our region. So what are the down falls of this? Well, for starters now when you make a local call you MUST punch in a 10 digit code…So goodbye to the 7 digit phone calls to the people in and around your area. We must now get use to making what we all would have considered a long distance call to someone who lives just steps away.
In order for us all to have an easy transition into this new service it is urged that we start to implement the ten digit calls today.. We can do so by reprogramming our speed dials with the 10 digit numbers, as well as all cell phones and mobile devices. The more we implement these changes today the easier the transition will be come November 14th.
If you move within the state or decide to change or request for a new number your chance of obtaining a (203) area code will be slim. However all the people who currently have the 203 area code will be unaffected and will not have to change their numbers. All local calls will still be local calls, we just need to adjust to using 10 digits instead of 7.
